Bowhunting Safaris in South Africa

Dedicated bowhunting areas

In addition to our original hunting concessions, we have access to two dedicated bowhunting areas:

• Eastern Cape – approximately 5,000 hectares
• Free State – approximately 8,000 hectares

These areas are reserved exclusively for bowhunters, providing quieter hunting conditions, reduced disturbance and excellent opportunities to approach African game at responsible bowhunting distances.

Dangerous-game bowhunting specialists

Dangerous-game hunting with a bow is one of the most demanding challenges available to an experienced hunter. It requires exceptional preparation, discipline, suitable equipment and complete confidence in shot placement.

HH Hunting works with experienced, licensed dangerous-game professional hunters who understand the unique requirements of bowhunting at close range. Every hunt is carefully planned around the selected species, terrain, wind direction, animal behaviour and the safest possible approach.

Dangerous-game bowhunting is offered only where legally permitted and is always subject to available quota, the necessary licences and species-specific permits.

Eastern Cape bowhunting

Our approximately 5,000-hectare bowhunting area in the Eastern Cape combines thick bush, wooded valleys and more open sections.

The natural vegetation provides excellent cover for stalking and creates productive locations for strategically positioned bowhunting blinds. Depending on the species and conditions, hunts may take place through spot-and-stalk methods or from carefully selected blinds.

Free State bowhunting

Our approximately 8,000-hectare bowhunting area in the Free State offers a different landscape, with open grasslands, natural cover and varied terrain.

Its size allows game to move naturally between feeding, watering and resting areas. This creates challenging opportunities where success depends on patience, fieldcraft and accurate shooting.

Plains-game bowhunting

Alongside our dangerous-game operation, we offer bowhunting for a wide selection of plains-game species, which may include:

• Kudu
• Eland
• Nyala
• Waterbuck
• Bushbuck
• Gemsbok
• Zebra
• Blue and black wildebeest
• Impala
• Blesbok
• Springbok
• Warthog

Available species depend on the selected area, season and current quota.

Preparation and safety

Before the safari begins, every hunter will have an opportunity to check equipment and practise under local conditions. Our professional hunters will discuss:

• Suitable bow setup and draw weight
• Arrow weight and construction
• Broadhead selection
• Expected shooting distances
• Shot angles and placement
• Follow-up procedures
• Dangerous-game safety protocols

Dangerous-game bowhunting is suitable only for appropriately experienced hunters. The professional hunter retains final responsibility for assessing equipment, shooting ability, conditions and whether a safe hunting opportunity can be taken.
